My copy of MW4 Merc landed on the door step this morning. And after a few hours of melting enemy mechs and having fun, I decided to do a piece of fanart, dedicated to one of the most iconic (And my favorite.) mechs in the world.

I am of course talking about the MadCat of the fabled MechWarrior\BattleTech series.

There's a few errors, but for saying its my first attempt at drawing mechs, its pretty good if I say so my self.

Now all I need to do is dump my :shithappens: Logitec twist-stick and get a desent replacement.

Actually quite accurate from what I remember. :) The only thing that looks slightly odd is the joints look solid, not like joints - some tiny spaces might make it look a little more mobile.

Nice method of shading the windows, by the way.

I'm glad you like it, I presume you mean the arms when you mention the joints look solid? As from what I've seen in-game the legs don't change height on those blocks, although there's an obvious ability for the legs to do so if the pilot wished.

Although hunkering down to ambush a target sounds very un-Clan like

Mind you if the legs did change position, you'd want the two joints to be flush to each other, with all that weight. (plus all of it being sent down one of the legs as it moved.) Would cause serious ware problems and or out right structal failure if there was any play as the mech walked or ran.

Anyway Sorry for the tech geek babble, and thanks for commenting.

Well, 'cept for Clan Wolf. They BARELY tolerate things like artillery or ambush tactics (mind you not shooting from behind... More like a quick frontal attack) 'cause they're so useful and not /that/ dishonourable. </geek>

And that makes sense, really, I guess you're right. Even though it's more realistic and logical that way, the fact that 'mechs stand perfectly still and rigid like that when not being used always bugged me. I think I'm too artistic to be a good mechwarrior. :P

Yeah I agree, those mechs just standing, perfectly, no with movement what so ever, just looks wrong, life less and completely unnatural. It lacks the “Human” touch. And the ones you see in the campaign missions now and again that are off line, there’s no way they’d stay on their feet with their gyro stabilizers (Or whatever the MW universe uses to keep them up right.) inactive. Especially hunched over like that.

BTW

Being an artist doesn’t make you an inefficient killer; it just makes you more stylish while you’re doing it. :D

Never played MechWarrior but I like their walker designs and I loved watching it on G4's Arena (Team Zombie all the way!) Nice work.
